What's Happening at Steenrod 2016?
Bridge Street Middle School is hosting an instructional basketball camp for girls currently in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. The camp will take place on April 19th, 20th, and the 21st. The camp will run from 5pm to 7pm. Pre-registration is available by completing this form and returning it to Bridge Street Middle School. All participants will learn the essential fundamentals and rules of the game, while meeting new people and having lots of fun.
Barn Hill Preserve is a small, family run zoo in Louisiana that loves to educate about all the different animals we have in the world. Their mobile educators travel around the United States offering 100% free, animal education programs to schools. Our students LOVED this last year! At the end of the presentation Barn Hill offers the opportunity for students to have their picture taken with one of their animal ambassadors. The pictures are completely optional but if the students would like a picture, the cost is $10 a picture which helps Barn Hill to continue offering a free program.
Even if your child DOES NOT want a picture, the permission slips need to be signed and returned. Students will not be permitted to attend the education program without a signed permission slip.
On March 11, 2017 the Steenrod Elementary PTA is once again hosting the Saturday Scholars Program. In this unique program held annually, kids choose from a selection of fun “classes” that they would be interested in learning more about. Your child will be able to participate in four, 35 minute classes.
The handouts explaining the classes and the registration form will be coming home - however, if you want to get ahead or need another, see attached.
Registration Form and Payment is due March 2 to avoid late fees.

We are again collecting donations for All for Books. To kick off our fair, we are having a "Happy Camper" theme dress up day on Friday, February 24, 2017. Wear your explorer/camp gear or a plaid shirt. By donating $1 or loose change, you can help us purchase books for our media center. Helping is simple. Just send in your donation & the attached signed book slip with your child’s name so we can display it at our book fair.
All for Books money also helps readers beyond our schools and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to 1 million books to 2 non-profit organizations dedicated to helping children, families, and teachers acquire books and educational resources-Kids in Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
We are in need volunteers for a day with Ion Jones and the Lost Castle of Chemistry.
Wednesday, March 8 -- we need volunteers from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Staff from Carnegie Science Center will begin training volunteers at 9:00 to run Adventure Stations which will begin at 10:00 and will have different classes scheduled throughout the day. The Science Center recommends volunteers who are available for the whole day, but if that is not possible, we may be able to work out a 1/2 day option.
It looks like it will be an exciting day for our students in grades K-5! Please look at your schedule and see if you can help. This event is sponsored by our PTA; volunteers need to be board approved. Contact Mrs.Dietrich if you have any questions.
